How to paint (dip-dye) wicker baskets?

1) Gray wicker basket (grey willow basket)

Step 1: the mixture

How could we get gray color? directly to buy the dyeing powder? It seems impossible. The grey dye is a mixture of black ink and water. meantime，it’s not a simple mixture but some specific skills.

Pour black ink and water into a pool？ But how much water or ink we should pour? Which depends on the quantity of wicker baskets. In fact, it’s impossible for us to use out the dyed color when every time dying, in order to avoid wasting, it becomes necessary to control the dyed water. Which are all by experience, so you know how important to employ experienced workers.

Usually, the principle is finish dying and left little paint mixture.

How to control the mixture proportion. Which is up to the worker’s experience. Usually speaking, after mixing well, we will take one or two baskets as a try. if the color seems ok, then begin the mass dying.

Maybe someone says: why not use the measuring container, which is more accurate. sure, it’s more accurate than experience, but in life, we do not dye by measuring container. we’d like by our experience, it’s almost common for every wicker baskets supplier, And most time the color of the basket is ok by experience.

In a word: mix ink and water, stir well.

Step 2: dying

After mixing,

—Put baskets into the pool. Submerging absolutely

–Rock these baskets(it’s about 8-10 baskets together to be put into the pool every time)

—Take out to the rack for 2 minutes or so

—Take these baskets (on the rack ) to the floor till dry (usually, we dyed in the morning on a shinning day, and dry till the noon or 3-4 hours )

—Dyed in water paint (which is mixed with white powder not only pure water paint)

Now it becomes a finished grey wicker storage basket.

2) shabby chic white wicker baskets

white wicker baskets are from white liquid dye & water mixture. which should be enough heavy concentration.

After mix well white liquid dye and water

—put baskets into dying water

—bring out onto the rack,

—wipe baskets with a rag before the white dye become dry —drying under the sun

Now a beautiful shabby white wicker basket is finished.

3) powder dye

In fact, no natter gray or shabby white baskets, which are all mixed by cold water.

Now, we will show another dying method with hot water:

the powder dye. Which could have various color what you want.

—To burn water to boiling

—put powder dye into the boiling water ( the proportion is up to the working experience. Also before the mass dying, we will dye one or two baskets as a try)

—put natural wicker baskets into hot water and submerging completely

—bring out to the floor to dry under the sun till dry thoroughly

—dye by water paint.

This kind of powder dye has various colors dye. And you could dye as you need.

Some wicker baskets are dyed by one dye powder, but some need more than two mixed powders.

Usually, we will take the baskets to the dye shop before dying, if we are not sure the dye.

Powder dye is a complex craft: for the one same basket, maybe two powder mixture, maybe three. it’s mixed by experience till to same or near tightly to the color of the original basket. Furthermore, for some powder, the hot water is enough no need for boiling water.
